The Arrival by author/illustrator Shaun Tan is an incredible book clearly tied to our immigration curriculum.  It tells the story of a man embarking on a journey to a new land in order to build a better, safer life for his family.  Only this book tells this story solely through pictures, and the lands, their inhabitants, and their dangers (while fascinatingly familiar) are clearly birthed from the illustrator’s imagination.   Ms. Gordon has been working with us to examine this book closely, digging deeper as we interpret the story using what we have learned about immigration so far.   We will also be writing poetry inspired by the drawings.  Check out Shaun Tan’s website for information about how he developed this book, as well as more illustrations.
