Today on the 9th floor, dozens of new immigrants from across Europe  were processed at Ellis Island. Communists, Socialists, Monarchists, Believers in Democracy, Catholics, Jews, atheists, agnostics, and Protestants all gathered here with one goal – to become American Citizens. The old, the young, the strong, and the feeble underwent intense questioning about their characters, vocations, and health. Some were almost turned away (and one was deported), but many took the loyalty oath, pledging their allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Thank you to all of the teachers, administrators, parents, and costume consultants who made this grade wide event possible.
